So, you’re staring into your mirror looking at that pimple that has been there for two days wondering to pop or not to pop! Will it leave a scar if I do? Then there are those unsightly black heads surrounding it making your pores visible from the moon. Or maybe that one goliath pimple stuck under the skin and you know when it comes out it’s gonna be at the most inopportune moment. Ever had these days?

Life is definitely a journey filled with unknowns we often can’t control, so when our acne starts participating in those unknowns it makes life that much harder.

Acne-free skin is not an easy accomplishment. Our skin is quite finicky on the best day and honing in the perfect combination for your own can be difficult. With, quite literally, thousands of different products at your fingertips to help with acne, it takes time, patience, and experimentation to get it right for your unique skin type, but I would like to help with that.

I created this blog to help ladies and gents, such as yourself, in the search for acne-free skin. I have taken the time, effort and a mass amount of experimentation to get my own skin clear, most days. I have tried hundreds of different products. From high end acne treatments, to doctor prescribed, to DIYS. Some worked, some were okay and some I will never give up! If you would like to learn more about my own skin journey please check out my About Me page.”

The number one thing to remember on your journey is to never give up no matter how frustrating it may be. Know that your body has it’s own agenda and no matter how hard we try sometimes it’s simply going to do what it is going to do. Know that some acne on your skin doesn’t define who you are as a person. It simply says hey sometimes my skin is really annoying.

  1. I’m a guy and I totally agree with every word. Sometimes we are misled by advertisements that “this product will definitely work”. I like the fact that you mentioned that everyone skin type is different and to focus on finding a combination that will work for you. I suffered from acne in the past so I know exactly what you mean. It helps me feel better knowing that there are people out there that understand what it’s like. Thank you!

    1. Hi Johel,
Gentlemen are always welcome and thank you for sharing your story! It really is true about different skin types, because our skin is constantly changing whether it be from climate or from simply changing our daily diet. Its finicky, but if you have patience with it then you will definitely succeed in finding what is right for your skin.

  2. Hi. I have recently started to work for a beauty company to help babies and adults live safer and healthier life, we all know it is important to feed our bodies well because you can absolutely see it on our faces if we don’t (like pimples and acne…) I have only recently found out how much toxic chemicals are in most personal products. Keep spreading your message and do your research, because for every crapy product it is possible to find a great one. 🙂

    1. Hi Gabby,

That’s awesome to hear. I hope your enjoying your new job; it sounds fun and rewarding! 😀

And yes mam, the chemicals that we not only put on our skin, but consume on a daily basis can sometimes be what is actually causing or furthering the problem. Knowledge is key in understanding our skincare needs.

Thank you so much for the support!

  3. Hi Betsey, when I was much younger, I had terrible acne. But with age it went away thank goodness! As a young teen it was rough! Now I am 49 and after years of relatively clear skin on my face, I have noticed a few pockmarks. I will admit, my diet sucks, and am wondering if a change in diet may help this. Fried foods, sugar, and the like does affect us healthwize, and was wondering if cutting out these cruddy foods could possibly help with the pockmarks? Great post!

    1. Hi Eric,

      Thank you for dropping by!

A lot of times age does play a huge factor in your skins conditions; the good news though is that it’s treatable no matter how old or young! 🙂

As far as food, what goes in must come out, so your diet is definitely playing a part. I would try cutting back on fried foods especially and adding in more skin nutritious foods such as: dark berries, green tea, and garlic just to name a few. They contain not only antioxidants, but anti inflammatory properties as well.

Make sure to drink enough water throughout the day and you might think about adding vitamins to your daily routine if you aren’t already taking them. Vitamin E is known to help the skin with inflammation and vitamin K is known to help with scarred tissue.

      I hope this helps!

  4. Hi Betsey, I like how engaging and hopeful your post is. In my family I had the worst acne growing up and on top of that I already had a low self esteem. Now I don’t worry too much about it.

I still get acne but not as bad as when I was a teenager. I’m almost 30 now, I’m sure you are at least around my age or at least younger 20’s? I like how you’re handling it even though it can always be a pain!

Obviously I’m a man but I see in your about that you say gents so I feel welcomed here along with a former reviewer earlier on. All the best to you on your journey.

    1. Hi, I.C. Carlos,
I’m glad to hear it’s hopeful! I know it can be rough when we are in our teen years sometimes and even later on in life, but at the end of the day, skin is skin.

I’m in my mid twenties and I still get breakouts, but like ya said, it’s how one handles it. Positivity plus a little acne product magic and wallah… the breakout is gone! 🙂 And, of course, gents are welcome; ladies aren’t the only ones who get acne.

  5. Hey Betsy!

Although I am a male, we go through our skin problems as well. And I have tried a few different products myself, but hardly any worked. But changing diet, washing and sleeping habits helped out more than any product I have used. Glad to see a site where gals or guys can go to check on acne skin products. I have 2 beautiful little girls and I know a site like this may come in handy for them, when they get a little bit older.

    1. Gentlemen are always welcomed here at simplyladies! And there are so many products out there claiming to be miraculous healing elixirs, but in reality they are just trying to make a quick buck. I hope that I can deter not only you, but in the future your two lovely daughters from these products and help you to find what works for your skincare journey. 🙂 (I’d love to keep it in the family.)
Thank you so much for stopping by.
